  • Canvas is a widely used online platform that organizes educational content and instruction. For Lakehouse students, Canvas is designed to significantly improve your learning experience by:

    • Streamlining Your Curriculum: Easily access the stripe system materials and other curricular content used in your private lessons and band rehearsals, making it simpler to practice and study at home.

    • Improving Communication: Enhance collaboration between you, your family, and your instructors with easy-to-use communication tools.

    • Clarifying Progress and Growth: Standardize how we assess your progress and evaluate your skills within your lessons and band rehearsals. This will provide clear feedback, show your growth over the semester, and formalize your assessment as you move through the stripe system.

  • Our journey is mapped across eight sequential levels in the Stripes Curriculum, each a critical building block towards comprehensive musicianship. This structured progression ensures that every graduate of the program possesses the complete skill set required of a professional musician.

    • White and Yellow Stripes → The Foundation 

      • Establishing rhythmic precision, technical dexterity, and a deep understanding of core music theory. This is where the language of music is learned.

    • Green and Red Stripes → The Artist Emerges 

      • Students expand into harmonic complexity, melodic phrasing, and dynamic expression, moving from playing notes to making music on their chosen instrument.

    • Blue and Purple Stripes → The Craftsman Refines 

      • Advanced technique meets sophisticated theory. Here students will analyze music, master complex styles, and develop the critical listening skills essential for collaboration.

    • Brown and Black Stripes → The Professional Prepares 

      • The capstone levels focus on artistic voice, portfolio development, and performance of audition-level material. The student transitions into a self-sufficient artist.

    Inspired by the rigorous standards of institutions like the Berklee College of Music, our curriculum is built with a singular goal: to create industry-ready musicians.

    • Stage Ready Performers 

      • Our annual recitals are more than just shows; they are simulated professional engagements. Students learn to handle audition pressure, perform with stage presence, and demonstrate mastery of specific technical and artistic concepts under the spotlight.

    • Studio Competent Musicians 

      • The curriculum embeds the discipline needed for a studio environment: tight rhythm, impeccable timing, and the ability to quickly interpret and execute a musical vision, which skills critical for session work and recording.

      • By the final stripe students will have a polished audition portfolio, a deep understanding of music theory, and the performance experience that makes them stand out to post-secondary music programs.
